Somebody please talk me out of getting a cat. I’ve been wanting a pet ever since I started living alone–a little over a year ago. There was a really pretty barn cat that I fell in love with last winter. She was sweet and seemed like she had been abandoned. I decided I would take her home, but she disappeared before I could take her.
Here’s the thing. I am allergic to cats. It’s just that I think a cat would be much better for me than a dog. According to the internet, there are some breeds of cats that are more hypoallergenic than others.
The other option is a small dog, but that is even more of a commitment, and it seems like a cat is the best way to ease into owning a pet.
Is it worth having a constant runny nose and one eye swollen shut?
There are some really ugly hairless cats. You could do a fish or a turtle. I’m more of a dog person, but dogs want interaction. We have pugs. They shed, but the good thing is they sleep something like 18 hours a day, and it’s not so bad if you’re gone a lot.

We used to have a little shih tzu that pretty much slept all day. That would be perfect. My apartment is still a problem. Supposedly I can’t have pets here.
One word: Atticus. I’m not sure if I’m offering him or talking you out of a pet, but there it is.
I knew you would mention Atticus, and I’m pretty sure he would sexually assault me at night.
And you’re so taken by yourself you don’t have room for a paramour?
Re: pets
No rodents for me. Maybe a fish, but a fish won’t really keep me warm at night. Actually, the towel and the face full of cat hair you described was persuasive. Thanks!
